Texas A&M University-San Antonio is set to kick off the holiday season with its eighth annual “Lights of Esperanza” celebration, a beloved tradition that has evolved into a hallmark event.

“Seeing the lights reminds me of friends’ laughter, great memories and how much I love Texas A&M-San Antonio,” said graduate student Martin Calderon.

Like the University itself, Lights of Esperanza has grown steadily over the years. Today, the family-friendly event has about 40,000 lights and a mesmerizing laser light show.

Lights of Esperanza will include:

  • Light show
  • Musical entertainment
  • More than 40,000 lights throughout the campus
  • Winter Market
  • Family friendly activities and games
  • Photo opportunities
  • Food trucks

Alumnus Alex Quintero volunteered for Lights of Esperanza when she was a student and now plans to attend this year’s celebration with her two sons. “It was an amazing experience to work behind the scenes of Lights of Esperanza and see so many smiling faces, especially when families would take their pictures with General the Jaguar,” she said. “It made the holiday experience even more special knowing that I had a hand in the joy they shared. Now, as an alumna and community member, I get to experience that joy with my own family.”
