Dream Maker raises record funds for scholarships

Charles Butt Foundation honored for its longstanding commitment to supporting education and teacher development.

Thanks to the generous support of donors who understand the beneficial impact of providing access to quality higher education, the University Foundation’s 2021 Dream Maker Award Celebration, hosted virtually this year, raised a record $215,000 to support student scholarships.

This year the A&M-San Antonio Foundation also honored the Charles Butt Foundation for its longstanding commitment to supporting education and teacher development. Receiving the award on behalf of the Charles Butt Foundation was the foundation’s Philanthropic Team Member Dr. Shari Albright (far right), President of Raise Your Hand Texas.

Specifically, the passion of Mr. Charles Butt for supporting public education and his understanding of the need to boost assistance for the South Side of San Antonio catalyzed a $1 million gift in 2019 to support A&M-San Antonio’s College of Education and Human Development. That gift made possible the ambitious collaboration that since gave rise to the A&M-San Antonio and South Bexar County ISDs Partnership to Impact Regional Equity and Excellence (ASPIRE) network. Under this collaboration, seven participating school districts have joined forces to leverage assets to advance access to education and services, such as the Autism RISE Center, impacting nearly 70,000 K12 students in South Bexar County and beyond.

A&M-San Antionio’s Foundation’s Board of Directors established the Dream Maker Society in 2010 to recognize the individuals, corporations, and organizations that serve as champions to advance and support access to education. The annual Dream Maker celebration is A&M-San Antonio Foundation’s signature fundraising event, with 100 percent of proceeds used to support students attending Texas A&M University-San Antonio. Since the Foundation’s inception, it has partnered with the University to raise more than $3 million in philanthropic support and awarded scholarships to more than 6,700 students.
