Jaramillo, Hadj-Hamou Earn Top RRAC Honors Following Historic Men's Soccer Season

Texas A&M University-San Antonio men's soccer head coach Roberto Jaramillo and forward Nawfal Hadj-Hamou have earned two of the Red River Athletic Conference's top individual honors following a historic season for the Jaguars.

Jaramillo was named RRAC Coach of the Year, while Hadj-Hamou earned RRAC Offensive Player of the Year honors after helping lead the Jaguars to their first regular-season conference championship.

A&M-San Antonio finished the regular season 11-3-1 overall and 7-2 in conference play, including an undefeated 8-0 record at home. The championship marked the first regular-season conference team title in Jaguar Athletics history.

Soccer CrowdFor Jaramillo, the recognition reflects the continued growth of a program he has led since 2022. Under his leadership, the Jaguars have reached the postseason in each of his first three seasons, steadily establishing themselves as conference contenders.

"Coach Jaramillo is very deserving of this honor," said Darnell Smith, A&M-San Antonio athletics director. "He has built a culture of accountability, hard work, and excellence, while never losing sight of what matters most, helping young people grow and succeed. We're proud of what he and his staff have accomplished and excited about the future of our men's soccer program."

A San Antonio native, Jaramillo previously coached at Southwest High School, where he led the boys soccer program to five district championships and its first regional tournament appearance.

While Jaramillo's leadership helped guide the team's championship season, Hadj-Hamou emerged as one of the conference's most productive offensive players.

Hadj-Hamou recorded 21 goals and eight assists for 50 points in 15 appearances, including four game-winning goals. Against conference opponents, he totaled 16 goals and five assists for 37 points.

His performance represented a significant leap from the previous season, when he scored just two goals while competing at Blinn College.

"Nawfal took that challenge seriously and rose to heights no reasonable person could have expected," Smith said. "He expected it, though, and he more than earned this honor in that process."

Smith also credited Hadj-Hamou's character and leadership as important factors in his success.

"His success on the pitch is a byproduct of the kind of person he is," Smith said.

The individual honors add to a milestone season for A&M-San Antonio, which secured the RRAC's No. 1 tournament seed following a 2-0 victory over A&M-Victoria on Oct. 24.

The Jaguars will host their RRAC semifinal match Thursday, Nov. 5, at 5 p.m. at the A&M-San Antonio Track and Field Complex. The championship match is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1:30 p.m., as the Jaguars pursue a conference tournament title and an NAIA national tournament berth.
