Texas A&M University-San Antonio will welcome new and returning Jaguars to campus Monday, Aug. 24, with The Penny Social, the first event of the University’s SX410 Weeks of Welcome.
Hosted by the Office of Student Life, the Penny Social will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the West Lawn. Students can kick off the semester by enjoying free food, learning more about departments across campus and taking photos at unique photo areas.
“The Office of Student Life is so excited for this year’s Weeks of Welcome! We wanted to create something that feels like a festival for our campus community—something exciting, unique, and truly representative of who we are as a University. We hope students will come out, get involved, and make the most of everything Weeks of Welcome has to offer,” said Student Activities Coordinator, Josh Lujan.
The event marks the beginning of three weeks of SX410 Weeks of Welcome, featuring more than 60 events designed to help Jaguars connect with the University community, discover campus resources, and enjoy the start of the new academic year.
Following The Penny Social, the first week will feature events including Grocery Bingo, Taco Bout It with SGA, Tie-Dye Bandanas, Pizza & Payment Plans, Donuts with the Dean, the Involvement and the Part Time Job Fair, Welcome Back on the Back Porch, the Disglow Paint Rave are more.
“Every year, our Weeks of Welcome programming continues to grow, and this year is no exception. This initiative would not be possible without the incredible support of our campus partners who come together each year to create meaningful experiences for our students,” said Director of Student Life, Emily Banda.
Weeks Two and Three will continue with activities including Jagfit events, College Color Day, General’s Mercado, the College of Arts & Sciences Showcase, a Volunteer Fair, Recstravaganza, SX410 Pictures and more.
Throughout the three weeks, the “All Access Pass: Discover Your Library” will also be available at the University Library for Aug. 24 Sept. 11 through library business hours. It is an interactive activity to introduce students to resources throughout all floors of the library.
“Your library has more to discover than you might think! We can’t wait for you to explore, uncover what the All-Access Pass has to offer, and see where your library adventure takes you,” said Library Associate, Jessica Burnette.

With more than 60 events taking place Aug. 24 through Sept. 11, SX410 Weeks of Welcome gives Jaguars plenty of opportunities to get involved, explore campus and connect with the A&M-San Antonio community.
