The A&M–San Antonio campus was filled with energy and good times as thousands of guests gathered for the University’s Festival de Cascarones. Held on Sunday, April 26, the signature event serves as the official finale to Fiesta San Antonio and features live music, food, games, and carnival rides for guests of all ages.
“This is the 14th annual Festival de Cascarones, and every year, the celebration brings families and community members together at our campus,” said President Salvador Hector Ochoa. “It’s a joyful opportunity to experience the culture, energy, and pride of the South Side during Fiesta season while showcasing the welcoming spirit of A&M–San Antonio.”
Throughout the day, guests danced and sang along to a lively lineup of performers. The entertainment featured rising country artist Vinny Tovar, veteran Latin performer David Olivarez, regional favorite Lucky Joe, and Jaime Olivares y Los Mensajeros Del Sabor, known for their high-energy Latin tropical sound that kept the crowd on its feet.
Festivalgoers also enjoyed a wide variety of food and snacks from dozens of local vendors. Favorites from businesses such as Home Team Hot Dogs and More and Smokey Boyz included tacos, nachos, funnel cakes, hot dogs, and barbecue, ensuring there was something for every craving.
A popular new addition this year was the wine garden, which featured Mexican wines from Casa Guipzot, a boutique wine shop and tasting room with locations on San Antonio’s West Side and in the Historic La Villita Arts Village downtown. The adults-only wine garden offered a relaxed atmosphere where guests could unwind while enjoying live music and refreshments.
Beyond the food and entertainment, Festival de Cascarones offered families a full day of activities, including games, rides, and opportunities for children to participate in the colorful cascarones tradition that gives the event its name. Laughter and cheers echoed across campus as guests cracked confetti-filled eggs over the heads of friends and family, embracing one of Fiesta’s most beloved customs.
