San Antonio, TX — The Texas A&M University–San Antonio men’s and women’s basketball teams have each earned a spot in the 2026 Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Tournament, capping off strong regular-season campaigns and positioning both programs for postseason competition.
The women’s basketball team, led by Head Coach Chris Minner, finished second in the conference standings to secure one of the tournament’s top seeds. This marks their second trip to the RRAC Tournament, an impressive achievement in just their first two years as a program. The Jaguars will open postseason play on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m. CST against Texas College at A&M–San Antonio in the Recreation Center. The public can purchase tickets for the game, and guests are encouraged to arrive early due to potential increased traffic.
“Our defense is better this year, and we have more depth,” Minner said. “Being a year older has also helped with our preparation and work ethic. We have a better mindset, which comes with growth in the program. Everything has been more intense and more competitive, which is a natural progression.”
On the men’s side, the Jaguars demonstrated steady improvement throughout conference play to earn their place in the RRAC Tournament as the eighth seed. Under Head Coach Chris Dial, the team navigated a competitive schedule and continued to build momentum down the stretch. The men will face Louisiana State University Shreveport on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. CST in their opening-round matchup in Shreveport, La.
“This team has grown quite a bit,” Dial said. “The learning curve was not as sharp as we had hoped, but the reality is that the team is performing at a higher level than we were in October. We have had numerous lineup changes and our fair share of adversity, but I am pleased with the product we put on the floor in our most recent games.”
Now in their second year, both programs have emphasized discipline, preparation and accountability throughout the season. As tournament play begins, the Jaguars will look to translate their regular-season growth into postseason success and compete for a conference championship, with aspirations of advancing in NAIA postseason competition.
Athletics Director Dr. Darnell Smith expressed confidence in both teams heading into tournament play.
“I like where we are,” Smith said. “These teams have been tested, and they’ve responded. They’ve learned how to win close games and how to stay focused when things get tough. That experience matters in tournament play. They’re confident, focused and ready for the challenge and the opportunity ahead of them.”
