A&M-San Antonio’s Softball made history recently when Krisilyn Corral was named the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ Pitcher of the Week, marking the first national honor of this kind for both the program and the University.

A&M-San Antonio competes in the Red River Athletic Conference, which is an affiliated conference of the NAIA. Corral’s honor is particularly notable because it recognizes the best pitching performance across all NAIA programs nationwide for that week. The Red River Athletic Conference provides conference-level awards among member schools in Texas, Louisiana, and New Mexico. “We all are extremely proud of Krisilyn and grateful to see her hard work recognized,” said Nicole Dame, head softball coach. “This is a well-earned and meaningful honor, and we are excited for the rest of the season.”

Corral, a sophomore from El Paso, had a stellar performance to earn her recent national accolade, carrying the Jaguars to a 2-0 start. She pitched five innings, allowing four hits, while striking out seven in her team's 8-0 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State. She pitched in relief for two innings, earning the 4-3 win, while striking out four, allowing no hits or runs.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as pitcher of the week for both conference and NAIA,” said Corral. “I am super happy to start the season on such a great note, and excited to see what the rest of the season holds for my team. It’s only up from here.”

TAMUSA finished fifth last season. The Jaguars made it to the semifinals and lost to LSUA, ending their season with a 24-27 overall record and a 14-14 mark in the RRAC. They are currently 2-0.

Jaguar Softball’s next game is at home against Texas Wesleyan University on Saturday, Feb. 14.  Get tickets.
