Jaguars Open New Softball Stadium with Doubleheader Sweep

In a historic home debut, Jaguar Athletics softball christened its new on-campus stadium with a doubleheader sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State, claiming the first victories ever recorded at the new facility.

The Jaguars powered to an 8–0 shutout in game one before rallying for a dramatic 4–3 win in game two, giving Jaguar Athletics a milestone moment.

The season-opening doubleheader, on Saturday, Jan. 31, marked the official debut of the University’s new softball venue, providing players, coaches, and fans with a first look at the program’s new home.

The Jaguars set the tone early in the home opener, jumping out in front and never looking back in a dominant performance. Pitcher Krisilyn Corral tossed a complete-game shutout to earn the team’s first win, working 5.0 innings and allowing just three hits while striking out seven and issuing no walks. The Jaguars’ offense also proved to be stellar, helping the team pull ahead early with powerful and timely hitting.

Jaguar SoftballThere was a bit more drama in game two, as the Jaguars fell behind early, then mounted a comeback and delivered a walk-off victory to complete the sweep. Sari Travis got the start in Game 2, tossing 4.0 innings and striking out three. Hannah Schultz and Corral combined out of the bullpen to keep the Jaguars within striking distance. Corral earned her second win of the day, throwing 2.0 scoreless innings and striking out four to shut down Oklahoma Panhandle State. The Jaguars’ offense rallied late in the game to help take the lead and secure a win in front of the home crowd.

The doubleheader sweep marked a milestone for Texas A&M–San Antonio, as the Jaguars celebrated both their first victories in the new facility and the beginning of a new era for the program. A&M–San Antonio will return to the field on Feb. 14 when the Jaguars host Texas Wesleyan.

The University in early 2025 began construction on the softball facility, adding a press box, dugouts, and bleachers for 300 people. The softball field is part of a new athletic complex that includes an eight-lane competition track and multipurpose field, both of which are scheduled to open this semester.
