Texas A&M University-San Antonio’s annual athletic scholarship golf tournament was a huge success, raising a record-breaking $109,310, providing crucial support for Jaguar Athletics and student-athlete scholarships.
The event, known as the Jaguar Classic, was held Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, at the Golf Club of Texas. The tournament drew community members, alumni and supporters together in celebration of sportsmanship and philanthropy.
“The Jaguar Classic is more than just a golf tournament—it’s a powerful example of how our community rallies around A&M–San Antonio’s mission,” said University President Salvador Hector Ochoa. “The generosity shown here directly supports our student-athletes, helping them succeed both on the field and in the classroom. I am deeply grateful to all who participated and invested in the future of our Jaguars.”
Participants enjoyed a full day of golf on one of San Antonio’s premier courses. Golfers spent the day not only playing a round of golf, but interacting, and, at times, even competing against A&M-San Antonio student-athletes. At hole 3, teams squared off against A&M-San Antonio men’s golfers, who last year made it to the Red River Athletic Conference tournament. They even had the chance to win a Chevrolet truck for making a hole-in-one at hole 12.
Another highlight of the day was the Jaguar Classic Helicopter Golf Ball Drop, presented by Herff Jones. As part of the fundraising, participants purchased 1,000 golf balls, which were released from a helicopter hovering above the course. The two balls that landed closest to the hole won exclusive experiences at Ox Hunting Ranch in Uvalde. The first-place winner received the unique opportunity, along with four friends, to drive a German Leopard tank, while the second-place winner received the chance to drive an armored tracked vehicle and fire a machine gun.
The record-breaking funds raised through this year’s tournament will help ensure that A&M–San Antonio student-athletes have access to scholarships, resources, and opportunities that empower them to excel academically and athletically, while also preparing them to be leaders in their communities.
