Texas A&M University–San Antonio has earned significant recognition in the latest U.S. News & World Report College Rankings, making its debut on two prominent lists and advancing in key categories such as social mobility.
In the widely regarded annual rankings of colleges and universities across the United States, A&M–San Antonio placed No. 56 overall in the Regional Universities West category, which includes 14 states, among them Texas, Washington, Nevada, and California. This marks a 12-spot climb from last year. The University also rose to No. 29 in the Top Public Schools category, up from No. 37.
One of the most notable gains came in Top Performers on Social Mobility, where the University jumped 34 spots to No. 40. This ranking measures how well institutions serve students from lower-income backgrounds—approximately 76% of A&M–San Antonio students are Pell Grant eligible.
For the first time, A&M–San Antonio was also recognized in two additional categories: No. 29 in Best Value Schools and No. 30 in Best Colleges for Veterans. About 15% of the A&M-San Antonio student population is military-connected, and the University recently received the 2026 Gold Veteran Education Excellence Recognition Award from the Texas Veterans Commission.
“These new rankings reflect the University’s commitment to our students and to achieving excellence in all we do,” said President Salvador Hector Ochoa. “We are proud to see A&M–San Antonio recognized among the nation’s top universities, which is a direct result of the passion and dedication of our faculty, staff, and students. As we grow as an institution, I’m confident we will continue to earn accolades that affirm our increasingly vital role we have in our community, Texas and beyond.”
