More Than 1,200 Students Participate in A&M-San Antonio’s Annual Jaguar March

Texas A&M University-San Antonio welcomed thousands of new students during its annual Jaguar March on Wednesday, August 20, at 8 p.m. The cherished tradition brings together first-year students, their families, faculty and University leadership in a unifying campus celebration to kick off the academic year.

Students Posing at Jaguar MarchNow in its ninth year, the Jaguar March began in 2016 as part of the University’s JagX New Student Orientation program, which introduces students to campus life, traditions, and resources. This year, more than 1,200 students participated in the walk, which symbolizes the beginning of their academic journeys in higher education.

Led by President Salvador Hector Ochoa and other University leaders, students began the march at the campus fountain. From there, they walked along the iconic “Miracle Mile” to the Torre de Esperanza (Tower of Hope) at the University’s main entrance, before returning to campus in celebration.

Ochoa at Jaguar March“The Jaguar March is one of my favorite moments of the year,” said Ochoa. “It’s more than a walk across campus—it’s our way of saying, ‘You belong here.’ It marks the start of our students’ academic journeys, connecting each one to the spirit and strength of our Jaguar community.”

The event highlights Texas A&M-San Antonio’s commitment to student engagement and success. It also introduces incoming students to the Jaguar Legend, a story woven into the University’s culture that emphasizes strength, resilience, and transformation.
