Inaugural Class Alum Donates to Fuel Basketball Program’s Success

Texas A&M University-San Antonio alumnus Ryan Bergmann, ’09, remembers the University long before it had men’s and women’s basketball. He attended A&M-San Antonio as a part of the inaugural class when the first buildings on campus were still under construction. His passion for sports and commitment to seeing the University grow inspired him to support Jaguar Athletics, making a significant impact on our student-athletes. A longtime basketball fan, Bergmann was excited to see the Jaguar basketball program begin in fall 2024 and proud to be one of the first-ever donors to the program.

Bergmann graduated with honors and a degree in business administration. Now a successful attorney and the founder of Bergmann Law Firm PLLC, Bergmann is proud to contribute to the University’s growth and success.

Ryan Bergmann with Family“Being able to write checks, not for personal gain, but to support other students is a testament to the success of our university,” Bergmann said. “It's an awesome feeling to be able to come back and make those contributions.”

Bergmann’s gift will directly impact student-athletes by providing financial support for various program needs, including travel, equipment, and much more as the program grows. His donation is particularly meaningful as A&M-San Antonio continues to expand its athletic programs, fostering a competitive and enriching environment for student-athletes.

“Ryan’s commitment to the future of Jaguar Athletics is truly inspiring,” said A&M-San Antonio Athletic Director Darnell Smith. “His generosity ensures that our student-athletes have the resources they need to compete at a high level while excelling academically. This type of alumni support plays a crucial role in the continued growth of our athletic programs.”

As A&M-San Antonio wrapped up its inaugural Homecoming 2025, Bergmann and his family were honored during halftime of the men’s basketball game against Paul Quinn College. For Bergmann and his wife Nabile, ‘14, their generosity is more than just a financial gift. It’s a testament to the “belief in the future” of A&M-San Antonio and its student-athletes. At the homecoming games, the women’s team won 76-66 securing a spot in the Red River Athletic Conference tournament on Friday, Feb. 28.

“Seeing the basketball program grow, along with other sports, made me realize it was time to get involved and help out,” Bergmann said. “As alumni, we have a chance to make an impact on students after we graduate.”

Bergmann hopes that his contribution will inspire fellow alumni to support Jaguar Athletics in any way they can, whether through donations, volunteering, or attending games to cheer on the student-athletes.

“If they’re able to do so, I absolutely recommend it,” Bergmann said. “I think that’s like the upper echelon of success—to help others, to support others. I look forward to seeing more alumni contribute. Maybe even a little competition to see who can give more.”
