Texas A&M University-San Antonio to Celebrate More Than 700 Graduates at Fall 2024 Commencement

SAN ANTONIO – Texas A&M University-San Antonio will honor the academic achievements of more than 700 graduates at the Fall 2024 Commencement Ceremonies on Tuesday, December 17, at the Freeman Coliseum. Faculty, staff, families, and friends are invited to cheer on the graduating Jaguars as they embark on their next chapters.

Ceremony Schedule:

The ceremonies will be available through a livestream for those unable to attend, and the direct links to view the ceremonies are provided above.

Each ceremony will feature a student speaker and special highlights, representing the outstanding accomplishments and aspirations of this year’s graduating class.

To close out the celebrations, graduates will be celebrated with the "Graduates Shine" Glow-in-the-Dark Party, a vibrant light-filled moment marking the culmination of their academic journeys.

Deshaun Borders, a dedicated Peer Leader in the Office of First-Year Experience, has been a pillar of support for first-year students, helping them navigate college life. His efforts have fostered a culture of belonging and community on campus. With a passion for education, Borders is committed to empowering future generations of students, ensuring they feel seen, understood, and inspired to pursue their dreams. Post-graduation, he plans to continue advocating for accessible education, aiming to inspire lifelong learning beyond high school.

Celina

Celina Cantu, Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a Concentration in Pre-Physical Therapy

Celina Cantu’s energy and drive have made lasting impacts both on and off campus. She founded the Recreational Tennis Club and hosted fundraisers, including a public pickleball tournament. Cantu’s leadership extended into the arts, performing with Mariachi Los Jaguares del Sur and Jaguar Strings. Her innovative research explored the impact of backpacks and phones on walking posture, and her work as a Supplemental Instructor for College Algebra helped peers succeed academically. Off campus, Cantu mentored children at KidStrong, fostering their development as strong leaders. After earning a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, she aims to create accessible rehabilitation services forunderrepresented children on San Antonio’s South Side.

Alec John and Dr. Watson

College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Feature Alec John, Master of Science in Biology

Originally from Antigua, Alec John arrived in Texas in 2017 to pursue his educational dreams. After earning a bachelor’s degree in geoscience at Midwestern University, John followed his mentor, Dr. Charles Watson, to TAMUSA, where he began his master’s studies in biology in spring 2022. Under Dr. Watson’s guidance, John worked in the ecology lab researching reptiles and contributed to the growing Natural Science Department. His parents, traveling from Antigua, will celebrate this milestone with him as he looks forward to a future as a biology researcher.
